Pentagon Possession Not Enough

In a spectacular display of determination and individual skill, Morgan Hollowell ’14 fired off a shot at the Dexter Southfield goalie. Although the puck initially found the goalie instead of the net, the shot rebounded and Hollowell capitalized to start off the scoring for Andover.

Hollowell’s goal was one of three for Andover, but the team could not manage a victory as it lost 3-5 to Dexter.

Despite the loss, Andover showed promise through cohesive team play, most prominently on the first line.

“Anna [Fucillo ’15], Morgan and I work really well together,” said Caroline Garrity ’15. “We were put on the same line on Monday at our first practice back from break—and we just clicked right away. Anna and I have played together since [Freshman] year and Morgan completes the line with her super accurate shots and passes. We are a very hard-working line, and all three of us are always looking for each other the ice to create opportunities in the offensive zone.”

This tight bond and mutual awareness brought Andover within one goal of Dexter after Fucillo ripped one home off of an assist from Garrity.

“The puck was dumped into the zone, and Caroline Garrity went in hard after it and was able to force the opposing girl around the net. She was able to successfully come up with the puck,” said Fucillo. “I was the second forward in the zone at the top of the circle, Caroline dished me a nice pass right from the inner hash marks and I was able to get a good shot off.”

Evagelia Toffoloni ’15 scored the third goal, a top shelf backhand on a breakaway.

Andover outshot Dexter 37-32 in the game. Andover had 18 of their shots in the zone from the goalie’s crease to the top of the circles lateral to the face-off dot, known as the pentagon, while Dexter had 20.

“During the Southfield game, we were able to break out of our defensive end really well. We should bring this into the Brewster game and focus on rebounds and crashing the net,” said Evagelia Toffoloni. “Hopefully, we are able to connect as a team and convert these shots into goals,” she continued.

Andover will travel to play against Brewster Academy on Friday and will take on St. Paul’s on Saturday.
