Franziska Trautmann ’16

Franziska Trautmann ’16, a new Upper from Lafayette, L.A., boasts six years of experience on the volleyball court. As an outsider hitter, she reads the ball intently, hits with extreme precision and is a strong vocal leader. Her extensive knowledge of the game and natural athletic prowess have made her an offensive asset.

Additionally, Trautmann’s sense of humor, dance moves and consistent positivity build team chemistry on and off the court. Her exceptional performances in Andover’s recent matches and her contributions to the Andover Girls Volleyball team have earned her the title of The Phillipian’s “Athlete of the Week.”

How has your transition onto Andover’s team been?

I feel that I have transitioned really well. Coach Clyfe [Beckwith] has looked out for me since the first day of Team Prep Camp. My teammates are all amazing, and I’m having a lot of fun so far.

How does the team at Andover compare to your old team in Louisiana?

The level of competition is similar, but the team chemistry here is much better. Like I said, the girls here are great, and [Beckwith] is the best coach that I have ever had. He is a fun, nice guy and knows when to hold’em and when to fold’em. Clyfe is life.

What’s your favorite part of the team?

The psyches. They get [the team] pumped up for the games. The “What the hell are you wearing?” psyche was my favorite so far. Be on the look-out for a Christmas psyche coming soon. Let’s just say, Santa is coming a little early this year.

What’s the best part of volleyball?

It is a tie between winning, hitting the ball and spandex.

Do you have any personal pre-game rituals or superstitions?

On game days, I must drink one glass of chocolate milk at each meal — even at dinner after a game. When there is no chocolate milk left in [Paresky Commons], we lose. It has happened every time. Also, my hair must be braided in two pigtails, like in my picture [above].

What do you think about before you spike the ball?

Smashing my opponent’s face.

What are your goals for this season?

I hope to get better at hitting the ball, and I want the team to win. We are going all the way; I’m calling it now.
